Findings on the use of a Ca-based sorbent as an oxygen carrier precursor in a Chemical Looping Combustion unit

Limestone Chemical Looping Combustion (L-CLCTM) is a novel process to burn sulfurous fuels with intrinsic desulfurization and CO2 capture. L-CLCTM based on using calcium-based sorbents as precursors for CaSO4 formation, which used an oxygen carrier. Its principle lies in the in-situ sulfur retention performed fluidized bed combustors burning solid high content. The target redox pair transference fuel CaSO4/CaS. In this research work, experimental tests CH4, syngas H2 moderate H2S concentration were conducted continuous CLC unit. This campaign first kind there hardly information about CaSO4/CaS process. High combustion efficiencies achieved at temperatures (800–850 °C) when (∼96–99 %). Likewise, low CH4 efficiency (∼59 %) was found even operating temperature 945 °C. Additionally, different Ca/S molar ratios performed. They revealed that it possible reach suitable values (∼82 by ratio of 2.25. value resulted very feasible since commonly combustors.
